Sagging can also be caused by adverse weather conditions, including high winds. When your gutters start to sag they can start pulling the gutter away from your house, which can cause water to drain right into your home. When caught early, sagging gutters can be a quick fix! While many gutters are attached to homes with spikes, you will want to replace those with gutter screws, which are sturdier. Generally you can reattach the existing gutter and secure it back to your home. With proper maintenance this problem can often be avoided. Leaking Gutters Leaking gutters is a common problem with sectional gutter systems. Leaky gutters usually happen when gutter sections have pulled apart at the seams. This is caused by normal wear as well as severe weather conditions. Repairing seams can take some time to fix depending on their condition. You will need to remove all previous caulk, as well as any rust at the seam and smooth it all out. If you don’t do this your new caulk won’t bond. Once cleaned off and smoothed, you can reattach the two sections and securely adhere the seam. Overflow Problems If you’ve cleaned out your gutters but are still having water overflow, your gutter system may not be sloped accurately. It is recommended that for every 10 feet, your gutters should slope down about a quarter of an inch. To fix you will need to re-measure your gutter, following the above specifications. Once measured you will reattach your gutter to match the slope. Once done run your hose in the gutter to make sure water is flowing properly. Pooling Water Water pooling or draining right at your foundation should be taken care of immediately. If all other components of your gutters are working properly, then you may have a drainage problem. You will need to reroute the water coming from the downspout to an area away from the foundation. Most commonly people will attach a sleeve to their downspout and move water away from the home or business. |
